It was dark when I cycled to the college gym this morning!
Had my i-pod with me today as I ran on the treadmill, and the whole run was much less mind-numbing with some good tunes to take my mind of the tedium of the view not changing! (I really do prefer summer road-running I think). The first 10 mins were nice, the second 10 a bit tricky and the third 10 quite hard. Once I had done 30 mins though I was pleased to see I had done nearly 4.7k so thought I might as well carry on to do the whole 5k as I felt I had a couple more minutes in me.
Still getting the dizziness after treadmill running, but I am standing still on the treadmill before walking anywhere on solid ground now for 2 or 3 mins, AFTER a nice slow 5 mins cool down walk and the disorientation is much less pronounced.
Not happy with my heart rate (much too high) BUT - I was really spooked out to see that the treadmill knows what my HR is even when I am not holding the metal bars, because I am wearing the chest strap! Really spooky to see it appearing on the display when I'm not even holding it. took me a good 10 minutes to work out that it was picking up the transmissions from my chest strap! They are both the same make (POLAR) I wonder if anyone else has found that this happens even with different makes of chest strap and treadmill.
I am really pleased with today's run and frankly am considering trying to get back to my 10k training plan. I couldn't manage 7k at the kind of speeds I'm doing at the moment (about 9.3kph) but if I go a lot slower, I think running for 40 mins or so might just be possible for me in a few week's time. 3rd attempt lucky maybe - watch this space.
