Today I ran 7.33km (4.59miles) - further than I have ever run before! Woohoo!
Being half term, the college gym is closed, so I did a road session and managed 50 mins with a very comfortable avg heart rate of 135 beats per minute. That works out at 5.5mph.
It felt really good actually, and to be honest, in terms of feeling fit (in my breathing) enough to carry on I think I could have done today. Unfortunately, at about 49 mins my right knee started to twinge and I can see it being exacerbated by too long a session, but I'm really pleased with how this session felt and really concentrating on NOT getting injured again.
I can't praise the cross trainer at the gym enough for this. It's helped me improve my cardio-vascular fitness, WITHOUT the harsh impact of actual running on my joints. I think it might be the answer to help me get fit enough to be able to run 10k, without hurting myself. Looking forward to college starting again next week after half term, so I can get back to the gym and use it again.
In sadder news, just over 24 hours after his return home, the guy who shares my house and I had a row. Crushed by his lack of enthusiasm, I was upset and disappointed when my attempts to behave like a normal human being were squashed. He apologised, but I can't not think that this is a really sad thing to have happened. It makes the next time I try to be enthusiastic about something so much harder and was one of the serious reasons why my slip in to oblivion was so serious.
