    Friday the 13th!

    Friday, April 13th, 2007, 4:49 pm

Just thought I would add a bit to this while my little man is fast asleep although I am off to get some shut eye myself before long! I have been trying to get into the AP group but I can't do it and will come back to it later.

A bit of an introduction really. I am 34, married to Jez(42) and mum to Mitchell(1/2) who was born on 7th October 2006.

I am still breast feeding and we are about a week and a half into BLW (baby led weaning). I am fairly AP, not a term I was familiar with before having Mitchell. Before he was born I didn't really think about what type of parent I would be or rather what my parenting style would be as I couldn't see past THE BIRTH lol! Anyway it turns out that we are still co sleeping (we have a bedside cot), I wear Mitchell in a sling sometimes and I never leave him to cry. I don't really follow a set routine although we have started winding down from 7 ish and I try to get him to sleep for 8 ish but this is because he is ready not because we have forced it and the times are not rigid. I mostly feed him to sleep although, he can fall asleep being rocked, in the car, pushchair, sling or occasionally on his own if he is really tired. He is still waking for feeds in the night but I feed him lying down and we both go back to sleep easily and we rarely get to the crying stage which is nice. I absolutely hate the idea of controlled crying. I believe in gently parenting, responding to babies and generally following my instincts. I love being a mummy :)

Today we have been to my mums and Mitchell had a banana for his dinner followed by an Organix soft rusk  which was a new thing for him. He did really well and my mum was impressed. I think she has been a bit worried about him choking if I keep refusing to mash things! I am not sure how evangelical I am going to be about BLW, although I do think it is great and the right thing to do. I am thinking I might spoon feed foods which I would eat with a spoon until M can hold his own spoon but I haven't really decided yet. I have bought some yoghurts and baby porridge and am thinking about how to go about them. On Monday, it will be the start of week 3 of BLW so I am going to introduce breakfast. Up to now we have been doing one meal a day. M has so far tried carrot, sweet potato, brocolli, cauliflower, melon, papaya, rice cakes, banana and rusk! We have been alternating sweet and savoury and he will have a go at anything. It is all very messy and good fun and he is on the whole very enthusiastic. Today he couldn't get hold of the banana fast enough and was getting quite frustrated when I took it off him to wipe his hands (so he didn't drop it) or peel a bit more skin off lol!

I have created a folder with BLW photos if you want to have a look.
