Hello all,
I've just got back from a fabulous holiday in Sri Lanka and excited to see that new members have joined, so welcome!
Under the guise of 'it's my job' I thought I'd share some of the joys of what is a beautiful country. Sri Lanka is the kind of place where you don't really need to do anything in particular to enjoy the place - it's naturally stunning. Lush greenery everywhere (due to it's tropical climate), more banana plants and coconut palms than you know what to do with, and the more cultivated gardens in the homes and guesthouses we stayed in were veritable mini jungles with masses of colour and layers and textures thrown together....I could eat them all up.
Our expensive imported tropical imports are their roadside weeds. In fact, I think I may have spotted the odd wild growing Alocasia but without photographic evidence I can't be sure.
Here's some pics:

Unfortunately our UK climate is not so suited to these tropical beauties, but there are some exotic plants that are suprisingly at home here - have a look at these. I'd love to hear from anyone determined to cultivate their own tropical paradise.
