    Countdown to Little Dot's arrival

    Friday, September 28th, 2007, 3:44 pm

Today my hopes of going into Labour natrually were all but dashed :(

I woke up this morning at 7am with a good feeling about the day.  I was due at the Antenatal Day Unit at 9am with a subsequent appointment booked to see the consultant straight after.  I got Maddy up, dressed, fed and over to Grandma's for 8:15 and set off on the short drive to Chester.

Everything started well.  I even got one of the closest parking spaces to the Maternity Unit and the Day ward was empty when I arrived so I was scanned right away.  Liquor Volumes & Cord Flow were looking good and I knew that the CTG trace was nearly always good for me anyway.

Of course today would be the day that I get a bad CTG trace wouldn't it?  The day when I needed all my ducks lined up to convince my consultant that I should be allowed to go over my due date by at least a few days.  But no, Little Dot decided not to play ball and although the criteria was eventually met after 40 mins, there were some heart decelerations so I was asked to come back for another trace after seeing the consultant.

Last week I had a 2 hour wait to see the consultant and only then got to see a registrar.  He was happy to let me go to 41 weeks so I assumed the same would apply today.  Not so it seems :(  This time I didn't have to wait at all but when I got into the consulting room I was told in no uncertain terms that I wouldn't be allowed to go over my due date on Tuesday.  In fact the consultants actual words were, 'if you had seen me last week then you would have been induced by now'.  Then he spots the CTG graph from the mornings monitoring and says that if the second monitoring session is no better then he will insist on an induction today!  Queue shock and disapointed look on my face!

So I head back around to the Day unit where I get back on the monitor praying that Litltle Dot will start behaving.  But oh no!  LD has other ideas and this time spends 35 minutes fast asleep with no movements and no accelerations or anything!  At this point I am told that if baby doesn't wake up in the next 15 minutes then it is basically game over!  Well with 5 minutes to spare LD does just that and the trace picks up.  The graph is shown to the consultant and my induction is booked for Tuesday morning at 8am.

I have no reason to beleive that this baby might turn up before then but I am hoping and praying that it will.  But i have just about got my head around it now and I guess that so long as baby gets here safe and sound then it doesn't really matter how that happens does it?  But all the same - come on Little Dot!  Get a move on!

So far I have been on a 2 mile walk, eaten an entire pinapple and had a curry.  Everyone keeps recommending sex but I just don't think I could face that right now.  In fact I think my pelvis might even break in 2!  Plus I know these are all old wives tales at the end of the day and have as much chance of working out as Little Dot being a girl based on the up front and high bump I am carrying around.

Well hopefully by Wednesday we will know for sure what Little Dot's flavour is and all this worrying will be over.  I am ready for it now to be honest.

Come on LD, get a move on!

    Lots of love

Lynne, Maddy + Little Dot (39+3)
