Rambling and musings on the first week in Spain
Welll, it has been a whole week now since the relocation to Espana. We arrived on the Thursday just gefore Easter, in the evening, after a heavy storm. Good Friday is a big holiday here so everything was closed, we went out for lunch and then into Loja to see one of those Holy Week processions they have everywhere. Quite interesting, and the boys were strangely fascinated.
On Easter Sunday we went to a friends house for an extended and very drunken lunch. I can't believe I fell over, haven't done that for a very very long time! The boys had an Easter Egg hunt at home, and then again at the friend's house (together with their 4 yr old son too). In my drunken stupour I left both my phones their, so felt quite lost for a couple of days.
On Monday, the boys started at the local village school, so far so good. On the second day Daniel said he didn't want to go again, but apart from that they have trotted along quite happily. We had to provide most of the equipment, pencils, paper, crayons paints etc. I think 4 yr-olds have a curriculum of some sort as we have also had to order 3 'course material books'/ I've no idea what these are until we get them. They have picked up a few Spanish words already.
Dp went back to the UK yesterday for a few days work, so me and the boys are on our own now.
Weatherwise, Easter weekend was freeeeezing, we even had snow on the top of our hill. On Tuesday(which was a beautiful warm day) the Sierra Nevada mountains were covered in snow and looked truly majestic against the blue sky). Then it went quite cold again, but today was again a lovely day, and in the evening the crickets were chirrruping while I had a glass of wine on the terrace, a sure sign of warm weather.
As for the house, we are no further along really. We have now been waiting a month for the next plans from the architect, and a quote from the builder. It's getting frustrating.
We have bought a few houseplants for this house, and it's looking more like a proper home now.
Tomorrow I've promised the boys I'll take them to the park and for an ice cream, then to the indoor play centre they love so much. Sunday, a qiuet day at home.
All in all, aside from missing my daughters like mad (keep trying to persuade them to come over, but am being accused of nagging), it has been a good first week, apart from the new oven I bought, which turned out to be too big for our fitted kitchen.....but that's another story.
Think we are going to like it here!
