Feral kitten in my kitchen

Friday, September 28th, 2007, 10:15 am

Came into the kitchen the other night, just before bedtime, and there in the middle of the floor was a little, tabby and very frightened kitten!  He must have snuck in as I'd gone out for a minute and he didn't know what was going in.  He started dashing around the kitchen, trying to climb the walls and trying to jump out of the (closed) window.  He also got behind the fridge, so I put on 2 oven mitts and managed to catch him.  The poor thing was shaking with terror and managed to scratch me even with the oven gloves.  I calmed him down a bit by rubbing the back of his neck, and then opened the front door through which he shot like a bullet.  So sweeeet, I hope he's recovered from his ordeal.  Haven't seen him since.....

Thunder, floods and a missed flight.....

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007, 11:55 am

We are back in Spain, and the night before last had the most horrendous thunderstorms, lasted for hours and continued to the next day.  The boys, bless 'em, woke up, switched on the light and just talked and played (this was at 5 am!) until it quietened down then went back to sleep (till 9!).  They didn't cry or want me to stay with them of anything, just wanted the light on so they didn't see the lightning (which was really quite something!).

Yesterday the rain continued on and off, Mum (who is staying at the mo) and I went to the supermarket and found ouselves trapped, as while we were shopping there must have been the most torrential downpour, as the entrance to the supermarket and the pavement/road outside it were ankle-deep in water!  We had to wait for it to subside a bit (which it did in about 10 minutes) then tentatively pick our way to the car, which was just parked across the road.

Later in the evening, dp had a filght to Stansted to Granada, as he has work today.  He had checked in online, so didn't need to get there early, but we still set out 2 hours early.  However the road to Granada had a huge 15 kilometre traffic jam and it was only when we got to the airport junction we realied it was because the motorway was very flooded.  Dp's heart was sinking ever further as we sat in the queue and watched his plane come in (the motorway goes alongside the motorway). It was a Ryanair one, so anyone who uses them knows they have a very quick turnaround time).  We got to the airport 10 minutes later, by which time the gate was shut (we could see the plane still standing, but the steps were gone, so we knew he had missed it.

Rushed back home to get online and book a flight for next morning (his work wasn't till the evening), needless to say the Ryanair one was full (of all the others who missed the flight no doubt), so had to settle for Queasyjet from Malaga, which he got with ease this morning.

I've heard that in Mijas the hailstones were the size of golfballs and allegedly around 1,000 cars had their windscreens smashed.  And Nerja is totally flooded and without electricity.

Lovely, sunny and warm again today, you'd never have known it had happened.

Haven't written in ages!!

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007, 11:11 am

Just realised that I haven't written anything since we got back from Spain.  UK life must be boring!!  Actually we are off back to Spain again on Thrusday for 6 weeks, hopefully will catch the last of the summer!

Nothing much has gone on since we got back, I've been working, dp been working, boys been going to pre-school.....my lovely dd Katie has stayed a couple of times in between her THREE summer holidays, one with us in Spain, one with her Dad in Mauritius (jealous, me??) and another one on a friend's yacht, sailling around Brittany (not jealous of that one, not a sailor, me).

Err......that's it really, the world's most boring blog.....
