Introducing 'bridezilla'
Hello there, I'm Alex and or rather ‘bridezilla'. Let me explain. I'm getting married in September this year and the planning of said wedding has successfully managed to take over most of my free time. Booking and then fitting in appointments for dresses, accessories, flowers, catering, wine tasting (yum, yum), photography, choosing music, favours, accommodation etc and attending as many different church services as possible in two different parishes (because, just to complicate things, I'm not getting married where I live) means the big day is always at the back of my mind and my mum is even worse!
Before the engagement, when London got too much, my boyfriend and I used to escape to the country to stay with my parents, but now a visit ‘oop north' involves heated discussions on the taking fencing down to reach the church, the siteing for the marquee, who will be staying where and how many people we can squeeze into our tiny local church. Fun as it is, I had no idea how much work planning a wedding was!
I prefer to think of myself as one of those organised, single minded people - some people would call me anal. In fact my bridesmaids have taken to calling me ‘Monica' - as in the Courtney Cox character from Friends. When I told one male friend about the strategic planning that comes into play for a wedding he just laughed and said he bet I'd had the day mapped out since birth!
I must admit for the past few years I may have torn pages out of magazines with dresses and flowers that I liked the look of and I my principal reason for liking my parents' new house may have been it's proximity to the church, BUT I'm determined to prove than I can take a relaxed approach to our wedding - I made the mistake of calling it ‘my' to the boyfriend the other night, didn't go down well. Watch this space.
