The one about the engagement

Friday, October 26th, 2007, 7:25 am

So myself and other half have been together for nearly 8 years (on and off as they say :))....we went on holidays travelling around croatia, monetengro and Bosnia a few weeks ago and ended up getting engaged....but were not the type of couple to follow the norm and have a really loved up romantic engagement......oh no not us...

I had a feeling he was going to ask me for a while but to be honest knowing my other half as i do i assumed id have to do the asking! Anyway, my family roots descend from Montengro, so my Mum and her father had done loads of research on my family history and have now passed the baton as such onto me.

We started our holiday in Dubrovnik, where we stayed for 3 days in the Old Town. The weather was gorgeous, the food brilliant and the romance was at an all time high for us. We then travelled down to Kotor in Montenegro and walked the same streets as my great great great grandfather and his family - we even managed to find the house that they lived in - still standing in one of the squares of the old town....again - all still very beautiful and romantic. We then left Monetegro and spent two days in Bosnia - where we walked along the frontline of the war and swam in natural waterfalls......even more romance.

But no.....none of these locations or situations were good enough for us....no siree....instead we got engaged on Hvar island.....in the pissing rain........half way through a bottle of vodka and game of chess (which i was winning).....in a tent

Anyway - after the most unromantic, drunken accident of an engagement the world has EVER seen - we got a bit giddy.....obviously as a result of all the vodka and the feeling of "oh sh*t what have we done!".....and we got a fit of the giggles. The concept of 'quiet time' in the campsite was beyond us at this stage and there was only a very thin sheet of canvas separating us from our German neighbours....

So our fit of the giggles was interupted by a roar of 'SHUTEN ZE UP' and then we were politley asked to either leave campsite or keep the noise down. So we did what any sensible couple would do and grabbed the remaning vodka and skipped off down to the beach at 3am to get completely magled.

*Note to self - remember in future what lengths other half will go to in order to get out of losing a game of chess....may be able to use this to your advantage
