How to outsmart a 0 year old

Sunday, April 29th, 2007, 3:58 pm

Well the weekend is almost up and still nothing. I know it's only 3 days overdue but it seems like ages.

We're now trying psychology. Last night I told Bison(see previous blog) that we were actually quite busy at the moment so he could stay in his mummy's tummy as long as he liked. We're also thinking of unpacking the hospital bag and planning a trip away so that it'd be really inconvenient for labour to start now. This is sure to work. I don't think he has been listening to me though as there's not a hint of a twinge.

However, maybe his big sister has had a word and that's why he's still inside.

Get out of there now!

Friday, April 27th, 2007, 3:33 am

So the due date passed without so much as a twinge, despite an eleventh hour curry. I didn't really expect anything to happen on the due date but we're now officially overdue. I had a bit of a talk to bison (what we call the bump - don't ask!) this morning and explained that every day that we have to wait, we'll spend money on things for ourselves and deduct the cost from his/her future pocket money.

He/She didn't seem to bothered and just wiggled a bit and went back to sleep. We may be in for a hard time with this one if it's flouting authority so early.

I'm sooooo sick of spicy food, I'm not sure my nipples can handle any more.

No news is no news

Monday, April 23rd, 2007, 5:17 am

So I was talking in a previous post about the impending birth of my second...well it's still impending. I guess I should be patient as the little guy/girl isn't due until the 26th but I really want something to happen soon and I could do with the time off work!

We were two weeks late with the first so we're hoping that doesn't happen again, but if it does it does I guess, although we are gently trying to help things along, curry, pineapple, more curry, more pineapple, pineapple curry. All to no avail so far. My wife is also out pounding the streets, walking everywhere trying to get a helping hand from gravity.

Does anyone have any good ideas to help things along? We'd prefer gentle encouragements for the baby rather than anything a bit yucky like castor oil or a rhino horn and guava poultice!

Less than a month

The birth of my second is fast approaching and we're starting to get ourselves organised. This pregnancy has been hugely different from our first one (you can read about part of it in my old pregnancy diary) and I'm looking forward to all the little things that you take for granted again, burping, uncontrollable limbs, the first smiles etc.

We have under 4 weeks to go now and the final preparations are underway. My wife finishes work this week, we think we're settled on names for both boy or girl, we've arranged cover for our little one while we're at the hospital. It's almost just a case of sitting and waiting.

One thing we're both interested in is how our current little one will cope with the changes. We plan to involve her in everything and make sure she doesn't feel left out but I'm sure there may be times where we slip. I'm sure it'll all be fine though.

I'm also interested in how this one turns out as our first was a great sleeper (hardly any sleepless nights), not often ill, good eater, etc. Everyone says we'll be in for a shock with this one but we'll see. I'm feeling a bit sleepy already with the thought of sleepless nights.
