So, long time no speak, but things have gone really well over the last weeks. Our dear Tomas arrived into this world on May 9th and really changed our lives. The mother did so well at the hospital that everything went pretty smoothly. Soon we were sent back home to enjoy the little one.
And after the first sleepless nights, countless nappy changes and an endless list of questions to pediatricians and friends, we seem to have figured out the wonders of what apparently some people call the "Fourth Trimester".
Whenever Tomas gives us what appears to be a smile or grabs us with his little hands it makes it all worthwhile.
We have had his grandparents staying with us for a while and they couldn't be any happier either.
Thank you all for your good wishes! It's good to be back on Connect!

My wife and I went to a baby care course last Saturday to learn about nappy changes, swaddling, breastfeeding, etc. The nurse giving the course was extremely good and we thought we had learned a lot.
Then on Sunday we went to meet the newborn baby of some good friends of us, and I have to tell you that nothing compares to learning from other parents that have gone through the steep learning curve of having a first baby.
The tips we got from them on how to get the baby to sleep, feed and burp properly will come very handy soon, and this is not something you can learn from a book, DVD or classroom... this is learning directly from the source. Any tips you Connect friends can give us?

My wife and I are now 5 weeks away from the due date.
We have been told to expect the birth to take place +/- 2 weeks from the due date, but know from other couples' experience that it is very hard to accurately forecast when delivery process might start...
Starting last week, whenever my wife and I are not in the same place, I am carrying my phone and leaving it on all the time, to make sure my wife can always reach me when the contractions start.
This is both a joy and a nerve-shattering experience, the countdown has begun :-)

Following up on my 10k running post, I was just thinking about how great it is to have friends to share experiences with... I did the race with two other friends who also started running with me at the same time (different speeds and levels of fitness).
Now, as we were doing breakfast after the race we all just got so excited on the adrenalin rush of the race that we committed to running a Marathon soon... absolutely crazy thing to do but FUN !!From couch to Marathon runner in one year... will I get there?
At the same time, my parents-in-law are arriving soon in preparation for the birth of our baby. Hero needs some well-deserved pampering and we feel very excited and lucky to have them here soon. Again, sharing such an experience makes it so much more enjoyable!

Soon after Hero and I found out we were expecting it was time to make our New Year resolutions.
My resolutions included:
Studying Mandaring to be able to have a basic conversation with my parents-in-law
Recording an acoustic guitar mini-album with the songs I wrote over the last years
Staying fit so that the baby has a healthy father
The plan to meet resolution 3 was to join a local running club and find some running buddies to keep the training on track. So far it has been too cold to do much running, but we have managed to join two races to date. It is fun running together, so having buddies to do this with clearly helps.
On Sunday it was a 10k race and it was a very painful yet satisfying experience. I managed to make a personal best time but it is still too shameful to print here. I feel like I have learned a lot about how to pace yourself during a race and how to listen to your body when it tells you to slow down. Hopefully tomorrow my legs will not ache as much as last time.
Still, I am sure a lot of my running training in the next months is going to consist in running to the supermarket to get more diapers...
