Spice Girls reforming announcement
The Spice Girls are widely expected to announce their plans for get back together at a press conference in London this week. Rumours have been rife for months now, but it seems as if the decision has been made, and that the group are planning six live shows around the world with gigs in London, Tokyo and Las Vegas, to support a greatest hits album which comes out later this year.
In their heyday, Ginger, Posh, Baby, Scary and Sporty sold more than 55 million records. Their debut album, Spice, made them the fastest-selling British act since the Beatles, and the band epitomised "Cool Britannia" in the aftermath of Labour's 1997 election victory, and earned themselves a worldwide fan base.
DB remembers Girl Power very well from the first time around - with much fondness. But can the world stand it again? Band reunions are often successful - look at Take That - but an older, glossier, more groomed version of 'Spice up Your Life'? Db is not entirely convinced...![]()
