Monday 28th July.

Monday, July 28th, 2008, 12:05 pm

It was too nice a day to spend it indoors so I took Mum out to the beach. We stopped on the way to get some sandwiches, bottled water and something to read. Then we went down to the beach.

Mum insisted on walking instead of letting me get the wheelchair out so I gave her my arm to hold and she had her stick and we slowly walked to a bench by the bowling green where we sat and had some of our lunch.

Mum was getting a bit hot in the sunshine so I went off by myself looking for a cooler place to move to. I found one but it was quite a walk but Mum said she'd be ok and I felt that she would be so we slowly proceeded to another bench some distance away where we were looking out to see. The tide was miles out.

We could see the wind farm in the distance and the whole beach was deserted. We had a bit of a laugh with the men playing bowls earlier and now while sitting on this other bench a woman pushing an elderly lady in a wheelchair stopped to talk to us.

After a while Mum began to get hot again so I said whenever she wanted to go back to the car to just say. She immediately said she did. While I was out there looking out to sea I had some pangs of missing someone I won't see for a while and I thought 'so much for trying to do stuff to take my mind off things'. It's not working.

So I brought Mum back, stopping off at the disability radar toilet which was gorgeously cool. Could have stayed in there longer :)

Then we went to the car and I brought us back home.

Once back here I waited a bit and then gave Mum an ice cream which she loved.

When I was back this afternoon I felt totally or almost totally back to my usual self. No sad feelings or anything. Just a feeling that everything is ok and will be ok.

Will have to think of something to do tomorrow as I want to keep busy and preferrably doing something fun and interesting.

Hugs

Second Day of Kitchen Work

Sunday, March 9th, 2008, 6:20 am

Well the second day which was on Friday started with two workmen arriving who were the plumbers. They had come to take out the sink unit and remove the radiator.

They immediately found&nb sp;a problem which m eant they had to&nbs p;go and seek

advice but they neve r came back all  ;day.

Later on in the  ;day the foreman cam e to check on t he progress and wasn 't

happy to find that&n bsp;nothing had been  ;touched. He then went o ff and came

back to say that&nbs p;workmen will be co ming on Monday and&n bsp;they will take u p

the floorboards upstairs& nbsp;so they can re- route the radiator p ipe from upstairs to  the radiator in&nbs p;the hall.

I think they said&nb sp;the electrician might& nbsp;be calling too  and I'm not sure&nbs p;what

he will be doing&nbs p;so I've moved a&nb sp;heavy table and s ewing machine out of

the way of the  socket as they had&n bsp;previously mentioned  increasing all

the sockets around t he house.

I'm not sure if  ;it was moving the&n bsp;table or lifting  ;myself out of my&nb sp;chair

but I've strained my  left wrist which&nb sp;is much weaker as  a result.

So we'll have to&nbs p;see what Monday br ings now.

At the moment it's&n bsp;difficult living with  things the way  ;they are.

If I make toast  ;in the hall it  ;sets off the smoke& nbsp;alarm and so I

moved it to the  ;living room without  ;realising there was  ;one in there

too and that went&nb sp;off as well.

I've got the plates,  pans and utensils&n bsp;in the living ro om, the

fridge, freezer, microwav e and kettle are&nbs p;in the hall and&nb sp;the

cooker and some food  are in the kit chen.

I've lost the pepper  grinder and yesterd ay had trouble

finding the tin open er.

I've got no work&nbs p;surfaces to put pl ates down on. I don't know h ow

people manage and to  think this is  going to go on  for three

weeks.

Bye for now.

First Day of Kitchen Transformation

Thursday, March 6th, 2008, 9:59 am

Well I managed to get everything out of the kitchen apart from emptying the food cupboard. I have no idea where I will put everything out of there but if I leave the food in it they won't paint the interior.

I've still got a&nbs p;few days to empty& nbsp;it if I want&nb sp;it painted.

Today two workmen ca lled at just after&n bsp;half past eight  this morning and began to strip the wallpaper off the wall. I also had to then take the blinds off the window and I had no idea how to do that as I hadn't put them up. Anyway between me and the workman we got it done.

They also took the&n bsp;tiles off the wa ll behind the sink. These were just&nbs p;plain white ones. Nothing they've done so far has bothered me as it was overdue for a complete change anyway. Thank goodness I hadn't already decorated in there or something.

What they have revea led under the paper& nbsp;is one wall of& nbsp;orange paint and another wall of lime green. I grew up in this house and I can't ever remember having walls of such a hideous colour and combination.

So again I am n ot going to be  sorry to have them&n bsp;covered up and p ainted over.

I forgot to take&nbs p;a photo of it  ;before they began b ut I took a cou ple of this awful colour scheme.

They ripped off the& nbsp;cupboards from the&n bsp;walls along with  ;the work surfaces and pulled up the floor covering which I was glad to see go. Underneath are terrocotta tiles which they are going to cover with a new floor.

They have taped two& nbsp;papers on the w indow with the plan& nbsp;they are working&nbs p;to and another which looks like some kind of progress chart where they tick off the jobs as they do them.

I thought they were& nbsp;going to be her e all day doing  ;various things but  they left around half twelve and that was it for today. I asked him about what happens tomorrow and who would be coming and he said that tomorrow the plumbers would be calling to take out the sink unit among other things.

Today they have also  put plastic sheetin g all over the  hall and up the  ;stairs.

Mum isn't sure about  whether she can&nbs p;walk on it but&nbs p;she seemed ok.

It's all very confus ing because I have&n bsp;to microwave in  the hall and cook&nb sp;in the kitchen.

We are eating in&nbs p;the living room an d I am losing m y bearings of where& nbsp;everything is.

I've got some food&n bsp;in the living ro om and some in  boxes and the bread& nbsp;bin

is in the hall  to keep everything& nbsp;cool.

Managed to go out&nb sp;with Mum to pay&n bsp;some bills and g et her medication co llected.

Then I took a friend to collect their computer and take it to their new flat. I then came home and made Mum and I something to eat. I'd given her something before I'd gone out to tide her over.

I'm going to try&nbs p;and relax this aft ernoon but it's not& nbsp;easy as I keep

trying to find place s for the food  from the cupboards.

I need more boxes.

Will wait and see&nb sp;what tomorrow brings&n bsp;when the plumber  ;comes.

Hugs

Electricity Woman with amazing powers

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008, 3:30 pm

This woman sounds lsimilar to me although it only really happens to me when I get upset or angry...

'Electricity Woman with amazing powers' causes lights to flicker when she gets stressed

The ability to control electricity with your mind may seem the stuff of science fiction.

But one woman claims such a power is part of her everyday reality.

Debbie Wolf says she is one of Britain's growing number of "sliders" - people who believe their presence interferes with household appliances, radios and light bulbs.

She claims she can turn street lamps off, send digital clocks haywire and even defrost her freezer.

Scroll down for more...

Debbie claims she is one of Britain's growing army of 'sliders' - people who believe their presence causes havoc with household appliances, radios and light bulbs

But 38-year-old Miss Wolf admits that she has no control over her power.

"It happens when I'm stressed or if I'm chewing something over in my mind, but not if I'm annoyed," she said.

"It has never been full on whammy all day, but it happens frequently, such as when I'm excited."

Miss Wolf says she once blew a series of street lamps while riding by on a motorbike.

And she uses a wind-up alarm clock because her reaction on waking up in the morning "scrambles" digital ones.

Her supposed ability, dubbed Street Light Interference syndrome - or SLI - by experts, has earned her international fame.

In Japan, she has been likened to heroines from cult Manga comic strips.

She has also been compared to characters from the BBC2 show Heroes - in which ordinary people develop superhero abilities.

Miss Wolf, from Telscombe Cliffs, near Brighton, said: "The light has been faulty outside all the homes I have lived in and I'm always draining the batteries in remote controls.

"I often come back home to find a pool of water on the floor because the fridge-freezer has defrosted."

For a woman who believes she interferes with electrical equipment, however, Miss Wolf has chosen a risky job.

But her work as a pathology support officer at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton has never been affected, she said.

Hilary Evans, who writes about the paranormal and who coined the term "sliders", said Miss Wolf brings about unusually strong effects.

Debbie Wolf has an unexplained ability to make lights go out when she is stressed

"What happened to Debbie has happened to a great many other people, though her experience was more dramatic than most," he said.

Sceptics, however, dismiss SLI as wishful thinking and coincidence.

It is yet to be demonstrated in a contolled laboratory experiment, they argue.

Professor Richard Wiseman, who studies paranormal phenomena at the University of Hertfordshire, suspects SLI is caused by "observer bias".

He said: "Street lamps are going on and off all the time because they are faulty or because their timers aren't set properly.

"People only have to walk under a couple of lamps going off to think that they might be the cause."

Yesterday, the Mail put Miss Wolf 's power to the test.

Sitting in the hospital canteen, she was given a torch, a mobile phone and a radio on which to use her electrical influence - but none responded to her interference.

The lights in the canteen, the battery-powered clock on the wall and the electric tills also continued to operate normally.

But Miss Wolf explained that she has to be in the right mood for her powers to work.

"I have to be completely lost in my thoughts - usually thinking deeply about something that is troubling me."

Car Problems

Monday, January 28th, 2008, 12:07 pm

What a day and all I wanted to do was go and do some washing. Discovered my car battery was flat. Now normally I wouldn't ask anyone for help but as it happened the man across the road had asked me how mum was and he was working on his car so I asked if he could jump start my car.

We managed to do this but my bonnet has a faulty catch and so then the bonnet wouldn't shut properly. I was then faced with the choice of driving to my flat with a bonnet that won't shut properly and risk it flying open but still needing to drive round for a while to put a charge in the battery.

I drove round and round and round until I got bored so I went to the garage where I  have had the mot done before but they said they didn't want to get involved and told me of a place a few miles away. The car cut out while I was at the garage but started fine so that was one less worry. Now I just had the bonnet to sort out.

I phoned around some places and got told they hadn't got any spare catches and another place weren't answering the phone and another one had their answer machine on which said ring back later. I rang yet another place and they said to bring it in and they'd have a look at it so I did that.

What a brilliant garage that is. So they are going to sort it out by fitting a replacement catch and also do the mot. I would have to get a taxi back and a taxi there but I've done this before at other places so that wasn't going to be a big problem.

Then when I took the jump leads back to the man across the road he said he would follow me there on the day and drive me home and take me back when it needs collecting. How good is that.

I couldn't believe things turned out so well. I'm sitting here shaking now after everything that went on today. Must empty the boot of the car tomorrow as the wheelchair is in there and try and tidy up the interior.

We've got someone coming to read the meter tomorrow afternoon so I hope that goes without a hitch.

Need a lie down now as I'm feeling really drained and tired. I hadn't had anything to eat all day until it was all over or I'd have had indigestion as well.

Hugs
