I feel so wretched today that Bob had to take the kids to school. I literally could not get out of bed. Am convinced it's actual flu, but I don't really know as I've never had flu. Before I take myself back to bed (can you believe I had to drag my broken body to my pc first this morning???) I thought I'd share 'the eggs'

The winner is announced today, so fingers crossed.

It's been truly hideous in my house today. What is it about builders that makes them think they can
a) smoke in my hall
b) have the radio on really really loud
c) use my downstairs loo like a public urinal
?
Apart from that, they're quite nice. But more to the point, they're doing a fine job. The kitchen/dining room wall is now gone and oh, the space is magnificent. It's a pity the kitchen itself is so nasty, but once that's replaced (we're having cream shaker with black quartz worktop - mmmmmm) it'll be grand.
The eggs have been decorated! I have to say Thing 1 did a great job (I did help a little with the felt suits and sunglasses, but the aliens are completely his own work). Once I figure out the photo/phone stuff you'll see - so watch out for them. I have to say, he's delighted with himself, so I'm very glad we made the time to do it (while Thing 2 was in the bath).
He'll walk to school with pride in the morning. I'll let you know if he wins...

My mother-in-law called me at work yesterday to say I'd have to cancel Thing 1's drum lesson, as there was only half a wall in kitchen, massive holes in the hall floor (big enough for Thing 2 to fall through apparently), so she was taking them to her house. I sometimes get the feeling she despairs of my chaotic way of life - as do I frankly.
Now there is no wall in the kitchen - just huge amounts of dust. Luckily Thing 2 has the (much anitipcated) tea round at Luke's, but Thing 1 is desparate to make the egg decorating deadline. So we'll be sitting amongst the rubble sticking bits of felt onto boiled eggs.
One mum commented this morning that you can always tell who's mum has done the egg - so that's it, good excuse to let him get on with it.
I fee like my house is about to fall down, and I can't even make a cup of tea.

My life is chaotic. I mean, being a working mum is never a breeze, but this week is particularly challenging. The builders are still around (garage conversion to ‘boys playroom', knock-through from kitchen to dining room and new kitchen), and today in the house we have 3 builders, a carpenter, and 2 plumbers (one is a woman and I'm finding that weirdly gratifying).
If I can ever work out how to get the photos off my phone, you can see how it's all progressing. Can anyone fill me in on that, or should I just read the manual? (It drives Bob mad that I don't ever read manuals - but they are soooooo tedious I can't bear it, so I just get cross that I can't do stuff.)
We have also just had a monumentally busy weekend, which meant that Charlie didn't do his homework - although I tested his spellings on the walk to school and I think we're ok on that - plus, he's not decorated his egg for the school competition. He decided on ‘eggs in black' as his theme (as in ‘men in black' the movie), so a couple of suits and an alien was on the cards. Clearly it's just not going to get done. It's the thought of the amazing creations done by the offspring of alpha mums that really makes me depressed though.
And I won't even start on the whole work issue, as I'm hyperventilating even now...
So, this is later. The swimming lesson (for Thing 1 - Charlie) actually passed by peacefully for once. Usually I have to haul Thing 2 (Louis) into the car kicking and pulling my hair, whilst shrieking into the men's changing room at ‘Don't bother putting your socks on - just HURRY UP!!!".
I managed to by-pass that by threatening to cancel the tea at Luke's house - he's been counting down the days to that one.
So as long as I have something excellent on the horizon at all times we should be ok for tantrum aversion.
Sigh.
