I'm iVillage.co.uk's beauty editor. I wouldn't be surprised if the post office had to assign me my own personal postman to deliver all the lovely lotions and potions that I'm sent to try. And yet I still get excited every time a new lipgloss lands on my desk. It's a tough job, but somebody's got to do it.

Blow drys rule!

Thursday, July 19th, 2007, 11:17 am

A good hair cut and blow dry can make you feel ultra glam. Agreed, a decent hair cut can set you back a few bob, but there's one little salon treat that doesn't cost a bomb and is worth having anytime you're in need of a little extra glamour. I'm talking about a professional blow dry.

A good blow dry can cost as little as £10. Even if you don't trust your local salon to cut your hair there shouldn't be any reason not to trust them to do a good job blow drying it as long as you're clear about what you want. If you like it big, tell them that before they start. If you want a slick straight look or curled under at the end, have the confidence to explain clearly. Take a picture with you if needs be. If it looks like they're doing it wrong don't just sit in the chair looking petrified. Pipe up.

Charles Worthington  and Michaeljohn salons both offer blow drying masterclasses which are worth investing in. You're never going to achieve a professional salon finish at home, but you can certainly learn a thing or two from the professionals.

Hydrotherapy en France

Thursday, July 12th, 2007, 8:34 am

The nice thing about being a beauty editor is that from time to time you get to go on press trips abroad. I'm just back from a lovely trip to the beautiful Avene Spa in France. The properties of the thermal water from their spa there have proven hugely beneficial towards the healing of skin complaints such as eczema, psoriasis and burns. It's also brilliant for anyone sufferering from dryness or skin sensitivity. As well as treating skin complaints on site, Avene also make their own skin care range which is manufactured on site. I was fascinated to visit the factory where they make their skin care products.

I'll be writing more about my trip and the properties of their miracle water on the beauty channel soon.

Celebrity star buys

Monday, July 2nd, 2007, 7:48 am

Ever wondered how celebrities always manage to look so damn gorgeous?

Well, personal trainers, professional make-up artists and air brushing aside, let's not forget that they all have favourite products that they rely on to pep up their looks. For example, did you know that Beyonce's favourite gloss is Pout Lip Gloss in Light My Fire, £12 or that Sophie Dahl's favourite face-booster is Clarins Beauty Flash Balm, £19?

Get the lowdown on other celebrity star buys.
