I am 34, Scottish, separated with no children. I was training to be a nurse, but unfortunately I have not been able to complete that, due to a bereavement and complications surrounding funding. I still work in the care field, but am looking for a change of direction/impetus. I can be both serious, and ridiculously frivolous, shy and yet exuberant when in company I am comfortable with, intelligent and frighteningly stupid too!! My family (Dad, 2 brothers, sister-in-law) tell me that I can be very exuberant (my staid brother would say over-dramatic), but that is just who I am when I am happy and comfortable. I am utterly incapable of giving a short, direct answer to a question, which does occasionally irritate me! Am definitely a girlie-girl. Every time my 5 year old niece see me, she always says she likes my earrings/necklace/..something!!! She is a very pink and lilac little girl herself, and is my wee princess...I love her, and my nephew to bits! They are adorable. I love cats and dogs...have 1 cat, no dogs just now. Others have described me as insightful, articulate, loud, quiet (conversely!!), strong (will and mind), loving.APRICOTAAdventurousPProfoundRResponsibleIInnocentCCreativeOOutrageousTTrustworthyGet Your Own Name Acronym As a randomly generated acronym....that actually comes pretty close to the mark! My childhood heroine was Wonder Woman..and a good friend found this graphic for me, which I just HAVE to display!!

EEEEEEEEK!!!!!!

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007, 8:29 am

The Eeek refers to the fact that I haven't 'blogged' for a while. Is this a reflection of how hard it is to keep up with all the ivillage activities (here and overseas), keep up with friends and contacts........and just generally have 'a life'...............or is it a reflection of the fact, that due to circumstances in my life currently, there is not a whole h3ll of a lot to 'blog' about???

Think we'll leave that as a rhetorical question, lol!!

I have made several overseas 'connections' and I am finding them so friendly and active on ivillage...........so a big "hi y'all" to them!! I have joined 3 ivillageUSA groups and am having fun checking in with them..............although on the book lovers group................slow down guys!! Do you EAT books???????????

Have also joined the Feeling Fit and Healthy group........and they are being super-supportive so again a huge thanks to all them (interestingly....there is quite a cross over between book lovers and feeling fit'n'healthy-ers!!)

Have signed up to the UK 'Lose a lb a week til Christmas challenge'..........it's just in the first week, so a bit too early to tell how it is going.....but fingers crossed.

What else have I been doing? Getting extremely stressed over all the things in my life that are in a state of 'flux'........this has a knock on effect on my health and energy levels.......and have begun to feel like I am never going to pull myself back up to being even moderately energised...........burnout is a b#*#*!! Nothing I can do about it except make the most of the good days, and try not to get too frustrated over the bad days (of which there have been a LOT recently)...........I will get there...........but when you feel that you are being judged ("You've been off work, HOW long???") you are inclined to get a bit neurotic! PS....Never (if you can help it) make someone feel that their only value is in contributing to the gross national product!! I want to get back to work.......but NOT at the price of my wealth, well-being and happiness....a lesson 7 years in the learning and I am still struggling with it..........

On a positive note (yay!!!) I had a free makeover with Clinique (they are pushing their Autumn colours)..........bear in mind the photo was taken in cr@p light with my mobile phone.....but there is a photo of 'made up' me....somewhere in the gallery...............if I can work out how to display it in this blog I will do............but ain't making no promises!!

Ok.......................have I waffled enough?? I think so! Off now to find a quote for today or tomorrow...................take care peeps!!

Quote of the day #4

Monday, August 20th, 2007, 10:29 am

This is not a 'quote of the day' folks (well, it turned into one...so yes, it is!)..but while trying to think of one, (and tidying my room), I came across this, written on one of those card bookmarks that book shops give you 20 of when you buy 2 books (?????????)

"Beautiful, glorious Scotland, has spoilt me for every other country!"

This was said by Mary Todd Lincoln (wife of Abraham)...........and did she have fine taste or what!!! Unfortunately, I am not an Historian and cannot speak with erudition on Mary, and obviously she visited Scotland a few years ago now....(;-)

I am not actually a raving Nationalist, but I do have tremendous pride in my lovely country...(and I suppose I should confess to never having travelled really....) I don't know about others (maybe I should have a wee poll somewhere??) but I think although you can admire, or be struck by the undoubted beauty of other places/countries, your heart 'quickens' on your home soil. I used to live and work in England and travel home by train...and I FELT it when we crossed the border......the air seems different here.....there is a connection, and a vibrancy, and a quality here that I just respond to....I can breathe it in, like air, into my heart and soul.....and if you stand in Glencoe, then I defy anyone not to feel connected to 'the blood of my ancestors'.

The Celtic Church used to speak of 'thin' places...where we can almost touch or be aware of heaven/eternity..and I think Scotland (along with the other Celtic lands, and other places of course) have these 'thin' places in abundance. I also think the ground 'remembers' atrocities and tragedies that have occurred....such as the Glencoe massacre...

I tried to get some photos on here but am not sure of the copyright situation, so may come back and do that once I have some photos of my own on the computer!!

Random!!

Thursday, August 16th, 2007, 3:33 pm

Okay, dokey!!  So where are we??  I must admit to getting a bit lost as to what I have said to whom and when (and occasionally where)!  Still, guess it makes life interesting.  I am really enjoying Connect and ivillage!  I seem to add to the groups I belong to, and the boards I contribute to and the friends that I MSN to on a daily basis!  God knows what will happen when I finally get a life again lol!!  I think once you kind of get into the way of it and get a certain 'rhythm' going, it probably doesn't take long to do 'maintenance' blogging and catching up....I certainly hope that is true!  So, I have been up a little this week, and down a little this week which is pretty much par for the course!  Have had the first truly productive day I have had in quite a while...getting some things tidied up that have been lying in a huge pile for far too long!  To cut a very long story short (and not to advertise my life to the whole world!!) I have been living kind of out of boxes and having to decant a home's worth of possessions into a smallish room.  Maybe that should be a quote of the day.....Can't fit a quart into a pint pot lol!!!  Well, I may not have done quite that, but with Dad's help we have made a great start!   Am loving all the new friends I have made..thanks!  It makes me remember a guide camp song that we used to sing, hmm, a few years ago now...

"Make new friends, but keep the old ones.  One is silver, the other Gold"

Am hoping to turn Silver into Gold with many of you......Quick the Philosopher's Stone!!  Someone call Harry!

Oh, ok ok,  so Silver isn't a base metal, and never having read Harry Potter (yes, you heard me!) I don't know whether the Philosopher's Stone in that book is actually the stone Alchemists use to refer to, but I thought it was funny!

Quote of the Day #3

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007, 1:33 am

Oh Mamma Mia!!!!!!

After a not particularly great day yesterday (I went to the walk, but it kind of back-fired on me a little), I have had a completely sleep free night!!! And, so the 'motto' that came to mind was....

Make Hay While The Sun Shines.

Ok, ok so the sun wasn't shining, and it was night time...gimme some poetic licence here!! I'm suffering! I did make excellent use (I think) of the time. I eventually gave up at about 4, 4:30 am and decided to do some 'organising' etc of my ivillage stuff. So I went to the member list of one of the groups that I have joined, and invited them all to be one of my contacts!! However, the thing I am most proud of is that I managed to send each and every one a wee personalised message, usually commenting on something from their page. And if you go back to the Quote of the 'Day' #1, then you will see that it was no mean feat for me to 'put myself out there' like that, so I am totally going to blow my own trumpet and say.....Yay Me!! Especially as my fingers have now totally forgotten how to type. Some folks were members already, but in total that was 10 messages/contacts. Obviously it is difficult to know whether you want to invite a (more or less) total stranger into one element of your online life, but if you are having doubts, then I hope you will hang fire until you get to know me a bit better!

I am absolutely b**** ahem!!! Sorry!
